Becky has been riding since the age of five and coaching since she was fifteen. Before opening Mahurangi Riding School in 2016, she worked across a number of established Auckland riding schools including Diamond Lodge Equestrian and Bartley Riding Academy, as well as in pony clubs and private coaching roles.

Originally from the UK, Becky’s early riding education followed the British Horse Society (BHS) system before she moved to New Zealand and progressed through the NZ Pony Clubs Association pathway to B Level. While her own competitive riding has taken a step back in recent years to focus on coaching and raising a young family, she still enjoys the occasional event and a regular hack to the beach or Atiu Creek.

Becky is committed to ongoing education and regularly attends clinics to ensure her coaching remains informed, relevant, and grounded in best practice. While open to new ideas, she is firmly “old school” in her belief that correct, solid foundations are essential for both horse and rider.

Mahurangi Riding School was established after Becky identified a gap in the market for a boutique riding school offering quality instruction on well-schooled, well-cared-for horses. Horses have always been central to her life, and she is passionate about sharing her knowledge, experience, and love of horsemanship with others

Chevy

Chevy began her equestrian journey at Mahurangi Riding School almost ten years ago, as a beginner rider and helper. After several years assisting on weekends, she stepped into the role of Yard Supervisor and last year to an assistant coach role.

Chevy supports the school through holiday programmes and beginning - intermediate lessons, a role she particularly enjoys. Alongside her coaching and working on her ESNZ qualification, she is developing a promising young show jumper and hopes to begin competing this season.
